She had big dreams of touching the sky
So she learned, she practiced
And finally, she was ready
But when she began to fly, they laughed and looked away
“Another silly little bird,” they say,
“Doesn’t she know she belongs on the ground?”
They blew great winds, they gave her doubts
And sent a storm her way
She tumbled down from the sky
And snapped her wing as she landed
“See, we knew all along—
A little bird like her could never reach our height”
They chuckle from their perch on an old, white oak
