i kiss his head for the last time
his sweet paws tucked under the blanket,
his eyes glossed over
goodbye, i’ll miss you
i hug her for the last time
her fingers clutch mine tightly,
her eyes gently closed

i whisper through my tears
they don’t respond, but i know if they could
they’d say
