So far, after a month of sprinting up hills, running workouts at Rinconada Park, and exerting jogs, this year’s cross country team is ready for the many meets to come. With our varsity team having four sub-5-minute milers- Takuto Sagara, Alex Villanueva, Shotaro Horibe, and Raj Chitambar– the team is ready to achieve new records and medals at the courses waiting for us to dominate. Our first invitational was a success, with many incredible new personal bests from many of the athletes on the team. Most notably, our sophomore team, which you can see under this paragraph, had such an unbelievable race, with Alex and Sho finishing 2nd and 3rd, with a fast and jaw-dropping time of 12:39 for this 4-kilometer race, and Takuto placing 9th with a time of 13:11. With three Westmont runners in the top 10, all of them got new times and shiny medals. Additionally, our sophomore team managed to get first place as a team in our race, scoring sixty-seven points to win the race, with our top 7 finishers- Alex, Sho, Takuto, Edward Innes, Raj, Tristian Scott, and Harry Hewitt– getting medals to remember this achievement that we ran as a team.
We are looking forward to our next meet in Irvine, where our speedy varsity teams hope to run fascinating times for this soon-to-come 3-mile course.
