Universally loved, yet universally hated,
Although useful for many things,
My place in this world feels rather complicated.
My cucumber counterpart proves good for health and skin, I will admit,
But preserve one in salt and vinegar,
And suddenly it’s your taste buds that benefit.
Though I am definitely sour, and make some scrunch their face,
There are others who appreciate my intensity,
Who will snack until my jar is an empty vase.
Whether you like me or hate me, I really pay no mind,
I only ask you to do one task,
A chance to open your mind.
Try me once, whether or not you have before,
Because even vegetables deserve a second chance,
The chance to reopen a closed door.
If you still detest me, fine, feel free to throw out my jar,
But who knows, maybe you’ve grown,
A change of heart is never really that far.
