If you revisit our Spectacular Summer Sched from the end of the ‘25-’26 school year, you’ll see our most important goal: catching Spider-Man: Brand New Day as soon as it released. But first… we had to catch Rosie up on the prior movies for context. So, starting things off bright and early, Rosie came over at five pm–three hours later than planned. We had to lock in. Although we planned to begin with Civil War, the time crunch compelled us to jump ahead of schedule, with Infinity War first on the list
We burned through the first block of our marathon with treacherous, treacherous methods. Unfortunately for cinematic purists, 2x speed was our best-est friend—even the peevishly purple Thanos became a friendly, high-pitched gremlin. However sacrilegious double-speeding the arguably best two Avengers movies may be, it was a necessary sacrifice for the greater goal: absorbing as much context as possible for Brand New Day. The tragedies of Infinity War and Endgame were seemingly endless, but the emotional toll was downplayed yet again by the squeaky, rapidly-paced playback we watched.
After a brief bathroom break, we plopped ourselves onto a new pile of pillows, with a big ol’ screen. This time, lo and behold…
At a NORMAL speed! Under these laid-back circumstances, we dove into Far From Home while, ironically, lounging in the comforts of our own abode. Peter was a little too naive this time around to be a fan-favorite protagonist, leaving us feeling like displeased guardians with all the secondhand embarrassment. What a great choice for the first movie to watch at full speed. (ha. ha.) Fortunately, No Way Home picked up the tone while dragging in two icons of the multiverse. With a Peter One, Two, aaaaand Three, the movie finished on a high note in no time, leaving us super ecstatic for Brand New Day! Ecstatic in dreaming, perhaps, for Commodore Cambria Kelly! (She fell asleep…but! Had already watched it. It’s fine. Just lonely for Rosie :(.)
As dawn blossomed over the horizon, outfit ideas bloomed in our dozing hearts and exploded across the room. Blue and red galore, so much so that you’d think we were celebrating Independence Day! Ironic, given how close we were to starting school. (haha get it? ‘cause it’s prison…) Blue top with red striped shorts, red striped top with blue shorts—we were basically twinning with the whole theater.
Alamo Drafthouse Cinema was a novel experience for both of us. Reclining seats with supreme cushioning, a personal moving table, and more than enough space to stretch out our legs. The screens sufficed, but were nothing special. The movie, on the other hand, was pheeeeeenomenal!
No spoilers for you, bugaboo. We’ll just leave you with one clear-cut clue—the ending leaves you wanting to watch the next one… or two. If our lack of description is leaving you blue, check out Haley’s glowing review!
