After years of unbearable anticipation for the sequel to Spider-Man: No Way Home, I couldn’t have been more excited for Spider-Man: Brand New Day to finally arrive in theaters. With its opening weekend reaching record-breaking sales and securing a spot as the top movie in the box office, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has solidified itself as one of the best Marvel movies of all time (no questions asked). For readers who have yet to watch this life-changing movie, here are a few reasons why you absolutely should:
#1) The Emotional Journey:
The emotional journey and trauma Peter Parker goes through in the film hits you in a way that feels like you’re experiencing it firsthand. The heartbreak, tension, and absolutely gut-wrenching grief will leave you on the edge of your seat through the entire film (The rooftop scene absolutely killed me. You might’ve seen a couple of tears). I watched all the analysis videos of this movie—big shocker—and was amazed to discover how the directors incorporated Peter subtly going through all the stages of grief and gradually healing, making his journey so much more meaningful to see.
#2) The God-Tier Soundtrack
As soon as “Loser” by Tame Impala started playing in the theaters, I genuinely thought I was ascending into the heavens. The song placements in every scene were an absolute game-changer, transforming the whole movie from merely watching it to a full-on sensory experience. Trust me, you’ll have the entire soundtrack on repeat for the next few weeks by the end.
#3) The Unexpected Villain
Rather than a typical brute and physical antagonist, Spider-Man faces a mental psychic who challenges him to fight his own psychological battles. I loved how it didn’t simply end with Spider-Man defeating yet another villain, but with Peter Parker defeating his own fears and the antagonist guiding him to heal from his trauma.
#4) Masterful Action Sequences
Oh wow. Now, they knew from the start that these scenes were instantly turning into edits. Let me tell you right now that certain scenes will have your jaw dropped with how beautifully crafted and cinematic it was. The director switching from a CGI suit to a real suit—wrinkles and all—was the best decision ever made; it made Tom Holland’s movements in all the action scenes look so much more authentic and fluid.
If you couldn’t already tell, I absolutely loved this movie. To everyone who said that the movie was overhyped or boring, I’m convinced you had your eyes closed the entire time. It was so perfectly executed, with its emotional depth, humor, beautiful cinematography, and thrilling action scenes. Please don’t listen to those haters, and go watch this movie already! And if you’ve already watched it, I advise you to watch it again (I’m surprised you haven’t already).
