- Put mayonnaise on the bread, not butter!
As a person who hates mayo, I only use it to make grilled cheese sandwiches because it creates a beautiful crust. In the end, you can’t even taste the mayo flavor and are only left with golden bread and the perfect bite.
- Chop or shred your cheese!
I know it’s easy just to slap on a slice of cheese and call it a day, but shredding your cheddar (or whatever cheese you choose to use) will result in an exponentially more tasty sandwich.
- Use multiple types of cheese!
Personally, I like to use cheeses with different textures: one more stretchy, one solid, and one softer. My favorite combination is mozzarella, cheddar, and Dubliner cheese. By chopping and mixing different types of cheese, it promises you a perfect cheese pull (especially if you use mozzarella) and depth of flavor.
- Add a little bit of water to the pan
Without water, it is all too easy to burn your sandwich. However, with water in the pan, it adds steam and results in a more even cook and more melty cheese.
