Unfortunately, I have fallen down the same path as my father, a chronic road rager. While many, like my mom, will say this anger is unfounded, I am here to say that some drivers simply do not deserve to be on the road, and are thus the root of all problems. To avoid contributing to this widespread issue that has plagued our roads since Henry Ford invented the assembly line, here are some manners you should follow:
- Always use your blinker, especially when changing lanes!
- If you know you’re a bad parker, park your car far from other vehicles. Try to refrain from ruining an entire row of parking because your 15 sensors couldn’t help you stay within two lines.
- When making a right turn, do not brake in the middle of the lane. Move to the right (preferably over the dotted lines) to allow for the flow of traffic.
- Do not tailgate other people in 25 MPH zones.
- Adding on to the previous tip, do not go <15 MPH in a 25 MPH zone unless necessary. I would like to get to my destination within the next century.
- In instances with two turn lanes in the same direction, do not cross between lanes while turning. Stay in your own lane.
- At least pretend to listen to the stop signs, a couple seconds of braking won’t kill you.
- Know your directions! If you know you will need to turn right in a few miles, get to the right lane. Trying to force your way into an already jammed up turn lane is annoying for other drivers.
- Zipper merge pleasepleasepleaseplease.
