How to Give the Most Personal Gifts

By Penny Nunes

Gift giving has always been, and always will be my love language. Anyone I’ve ever been close to has at some point received a thoughtful, meaningful, and personal gift from me. Many people have asked me before, “How on earth do you figure out what to get people,” and my answer is usually something short like, “Oh, it just comes naturally,” but there is a strategy to it. Here are my top two tips on how to give the perfect gift.

Tip #1: Always have balance. The perfect gift should consist of a few things–unless you’re gifting something huge of course. The first thing to grab is a snack, either something yummy that they haven’t tried before, or something that you know they love. Don’t stop there! The next part of the gift should be something they can either wear or use, anything that is practical. This could consist of a fun T-shirt, a new hairbrush, or even a cute water bottle! Make sure it’s something that suits the specific person, and consider buying them a fresh version of something they love! The final thing to purchase, or make, is a gift that is personal. This is the part that will tie your whole gift together. Humans love affection, and the best way to show that is by taking effort, time, and thoughtfulness into their present. Some ideas could be making them a booklet of letters from people, sewing them a tote bag or makeup bag, even decorating a picture frame for them. What really comes to mind when you think of this person–take that and run with it. A great way to get inspiration is by checking their Tiktok reposts, people are always expressive through them. Don’t forget you can add as many little gifts as you’d like!

Tip #2: Presentation. The way you present the gift is a huge part of giving it. A basket is always a fan favorite. Organize things to look pretty, add flowers or candies, or anything to really fill it. Follow a color scheme, bonus points for their favorite color! If you’re doing a big present like concert tickets, a trip, or something overboard, try to come up with a fun way to gift it. For example, hide the tickets under a bunch of random things that go with the theme. There are so many ways to spice up a gift, and bring it all together. Adding the little details can change the whole experience.

Ultimately, it really is the little things that make presents so memorable. The effort you put into it will not go unnoticed and the sweet reactions of your closest friends and family opening it will make it all worth it. Make sure you always add dedication to whatever you’re doing, and don’t be afraid to mess around with things! Happy gift giving!
