how could i love someone more
than the one who’s always stayed by my shore
sailing to and fro
following my flow
when the storms roll through
and everything’s askew
her flag emblazoned with bright sunlight
billows in the wind all day and night
keeping her hull afloat
and wrapping me in a raincoat
saving me from my own lightning
making life less frightening
why would i love someone nouveau
when i already have my jane doe
