The Collection of All the Best Green Things

By Sophie Tuan

From rolling hills and crumpled dollar bills  to leafy green vegetables and royal emerald jewels, the color green appears all throughout your life. A wide assortment of things – plants, animals, jewels, and more —boast a chloropphyl colored shade, but out of all things green, which ones are the best?

Top 10 Best Green Things

  1. Jackfruit! Although the actual fruit part itself is yellow, the outside of a Jackfruit is entirely green and covered in spikes (not to be mistaken for Durian). The soft pieces of fruit have a light, sweet, floral taste and are best eaten right away.
  2. Guacamole – I’m not referring to plain avocados. Although they are delicious, guacamole will always reign superior. As my go-to dip it is refreshing, healthy, customizable, and easy to make.
  3. Grapes! I love green grapes. Biting into a perfectly sweet, crunchy grape is one of the most satisfying experiences. (Pro tip: frozen grapes are even better)
  4. The Grinch. As one of the most iconic Christmas characters, the Grinch’s humor, grumpiness, and melted heart are all staples of my childhood.
  5. Money – I know it seems shallow but money is a vital part of soceity.
  6. Emeralds – I simply love the color: its deep rich color screams luxury and elegance.
  7. Mint chocolate chip ice cream – Some people don’t like this flavor; however, I find it super tasty — the perfect balance of minty, sweet, and light.
  8. Elphaba! My love of the Wicked musical played a huge role in my childhood and my admiration for Elphaba’s strong character continues to grow —especially after the release of the Wicked movie. Now, Elphaba has become a much more popular character with her trademark green skin and dry humor.
  9. Jade – Ranging from creamy, light green to deep, calming shades, jade represents the soul and immortality in Chinese culture. From my grandmother’s jade jewlery to tiny jade good luck charms, jade has always had a special place in my heart.
  10. Sea turtles  – These aquatic creatures gently float through the sea with their adorable flippers and kind souls. How can you not adore them?
