Ever since I first walked into room 20 on a Wednesday A-Day, I’ve been captivated by the wonderful community of the Asian Student Union. When I first joined as a freshman, I was extremely shy;however, with the help of ASU, I was able to join a kind community of students who celebrated Asian culture while having an abundance of fun. From painting an artistic mural to celebrating different Asian holidays and playing chaotic kahoots, ASU has consistently been a fantastic environment to enjoy and learn about different aspects of Asian culture. Whenever you walk into room 20, you are sure to be greeted by the hilarious Gavin Lam, artistic Claire Hwang, diligent Clara Kuhn, eager Helen Ho, friendly Jordan Kwong, and organized Shruthi Seluka, which combined, make up the board of the Asian Student Union!
In addition, if you ever walk past the H wing of Westmont, you will see the eye-catchingly colorful and intricately created mural painted by past and present Westmont students including Sashya Reddy and Yunhee Shin, who spent countless hours perfecting the mural. This grand project began in my freshman year, the 2021-2022 school year, and was finally completed in my senior year, what a full-circle moment! With the help of other students including Keira DeVita, Jordan Kwong, Molly Jarrett, myself, and ASU’s last president, Alan Lu, the duo of artists finished the mural last November and now it is available for all to see!
Overall, ASU is such a fulfilling club full of students who love to laugh and learn with one another. One of the most rewarding parts of my high school experience has been joining the club, as I have made countless friends and memories in room 20. Make sure to visit ASU to join the fun every Wednesday A-Day!
