Warrior Wardrobe: Kaylee Garcia

By Emi Gruender and Mia Hanuska

The next Coco Chanel of our generation, designing clothing since 6 years old: junior Kaylee Garcia. Both a designer and a model, Kaylee attends the fashion SVCTE class and models for “Bliss Boutique,” a local quinceanera dress shop on the side. We were fortunate to score a quick interview with the busy designer.

Describe your style in three words

Dressy, flowy, comfy

Who is/are your fashion icons?

Mia Hanuska, Dior, Yves Saint Laurent

What is a go-to item in your closet?

Skirts. I wear a lot of skirts. Skirts, dresses. And the Universal Threads cardigan I stole from Emi Gruender

Where do you get your clothes from?

Hollister, Abercrombie & Fitch, and… what’s the other one? Cotton On. I get so many of my clothes from Cotton On. And Amazon, but don’t put that!

What is a fashion trend you love?

I like plaid, and when people mix metals. Like when they wear silver and gold together. I think it’s really cute.

What is a fashion trend you hate?

Ooh… There’s a lot. I’m gonna say Lululemon anything, Birkenstocks, and Crocs. Oh! And Ugg slip-ons. Ugg boots are cute.

What are some fashion tips you have?

Always try to accessorize when you can. It always makes an outfit look better. Also, don’t be afraid to wear what you actually like and change your style from time to time.

What are your dreams for fashion in the future

I hope to go to FIT in New York, become a fashion designer, and create my own brand.

What do you think you’re gonna name it? If you had to choose right now?

Right now, my brand in my class is just K. Garcia, just my name.

In what categories would you like to design?

Formalwear, for sure.

Would you want to design a dress for the Met Gala?

*nods excitedly* Yes… yes! Imagine how cool that would be. Being able to say, like, “I made that!”
