Exhibiting athletic excellence, Evelyn Santos can be found succeeding on the soccer field. Since freshman year, she has been a vital part of the varsity girls soccer team, scoring countless goals and playing with a confident charm. As a forward, she has created endless scoring opportunities for the team and continues to have a lasting and positive impact on the team as a whole. Her teammateChloe Pyo states “Evelyn is an amazing teammate on and off the field… she never fails to make us laugh and always impresses us.” Playing with a bold and resilient style, Santosalways finds the back of the net when needed most, as exhibited by her scoring 9 goals per season in her sophomore and junior years. Additionally, she has won numerous accolades, including Second Team All-League in her junior year and honorable mention in her sophomore year.
When did you start playing soccer?
I started playing soccer when I was 4 years old. I played with a guys team up until l was 13 years old. I helped lead them to a lot of championship games and won many medals with them. Playing with guys made me mentally and physically stronger which helped out a lot once I started playing with girls.
What is your position?
I play as a “9” which is known as striker or forward. I loved the feelings of scoring goals so l stuck to that position ever since. That’s what l’m more known for, scoring goals.
What is your greatest achievement?
My greatest achievement is making the girls varsity team as a freshman. I heard how difficult it was making varsity as a freshman but it was always my goal as a freshman to play with the upperclassmen. On top of being on varsity as a freshman I was a starter as well.
What is your favorite memory of playing soccer?
My favorite memory of playing soccer is scoring against the Willow Glen Rams and making the lead of 1-0 to be placed in first place. It also helped the team to be league champions for the second year in a row. It marked the first time the girls soccer program has ever won back to back league titles. On top of that, we also made CCS.
Who would you like to thank for helping you succeed?
I would like to thank my parents for helping me succeed. They’ve made countless sacrifices and given endless support, which has been the foundation of my confidence and success. Whether I was facing a loss or celebrating a win, their presence has been a source of comfort and motivation. Everything I do is for them! I can’t thank them enough.
Do you have a specific routine before a match?
3 hours before a game l always eat a home cooked meal by mom and take a nap before every game. And when I’m on my way to the game I listen to music which helps me lock in.
What is your favorite part of the high school season?
My favorite part of the high school season is scoring goals and celebrating with my teammates. I love the feeling of being the undefeated team and the competition we have against the other schools. Nothing beats the feeling of being the school with the best girls’ soccer program.
Ultimately, Evelyn has exemplified a career of excellence in the Westmont Soccer program and will continue to have a positive impact on the team far into her senior year.
