From unpromptedly critiquing Beyonces’ album Cowboy Carter, to beefing with Doechii, Azealia Banks has definitely left her mark this year.
Azealia Banks, well known for constantly beefing with other celebrities, has once again criticized Beyonce this year. Azealia Banks’ beef with Beyonce first started in 2016, shortly after Beyonce released Lemonade. Azealia Banks tweeted, “[Beyonce’s] purposefully strayed away from political discourse her entire career to make sure she didn’t alienate white ppl. And now that black women’s suffering is a national conversation, she wants to hop on it and make our suffering ‘trendy’…she needs to stay under Jay-Z’s foot where she belongs, and stay out of the creative woman’s way.” This long tweet from Azealia Banks was completely unprompted (as most of Azealia Banks’ controversies with others are), and to this day, no one really knows why she critiqued Beyonce so hard, or why she continues to hate Beyonce. Then, in 2022, Azealia Banks commented on Beyonce’s looks, comparing her to Kim Kardashian, and claiming that Beyonce looked “sooooo obviously sad with Jay-Z…watching that energy drain her year after year just turns me off from how powerful she seemed to me as a kid.” This comment on Beyonce was, again, unprompted. Most recently, Azealia Banks hated on Beyonce’s Cowboy Carter album, specifically calling out the lack of an artistic title compared to her previous albums.
Another artist Azealia Banks targeted this year was Doechii, a well known rapper. Azealia Banks, unsurprisingly unprompted, insulted Doechii by tweeting that her fandom name should be “the ‘wannabes.’” Unlike Beyonce, Doechii did not stay silent, and tweeted her own response to Azealia, implying that it was not Doechii’s fault that she was much more successful than Azealia, and that Azealia should leave her alone.
Although 2024 has been a surprisingly quiet year for Azealia Banks, she continues to spark controversy after controversy, and create beef with quite literally anyone!
