Not only found setting up for ASB, being crowned a homecoming royal, or enlightening Westmont with her beautiful personality, Senior Hewan Tafari can also be found crushing it on the tennis court.

Hewan has been playing tennis since she was a kid, but started taking it seriously around thirteen years old. Her old coach’s daughter convinced her to join the tennis team at Westmont, where today Hewan and her partner Sara Kalangi are 5-0! Hewan looks up to Venus and Serena Williams, mentioning how she also grew up playing tennis with her sister.

During her interview, Hewan explained that the difficulty of tennis for her comes from the amount of time left thinking on the court. She mentions how (despite her excellent record), she spends a lot of time doubting herself. The necessary brain power required for a good tennis match serves a dual purpose though, and concentration also allows her to get lost in the rhythm of the game, forgetting about other worries and troubles.

Ultimately, Hewan’s passion for tennis can be added to her long list of positive attributes; make sure to look out for her when passing by the tennis courts!
