The Friday night lights have been burning bright as the season has set in motion and under these very lights, the Westmont Warriors’ football team has been playing their hearts out. The team, consisting of 48 players, currently has a record of three wins and two losses. The team is already on the right track of surpassing their overall record of six wins and four losses last season. All five games played were preseason and non-league games. The team’s latest game ended in a tight victory of 23-20 versus the Overfelt Royals. Captain Spencer Hoang, wide receiver and running back, said that his favorite part of the season so far has been “beating Overfelt in a nail-biting game”. Also captaining this season’s team are Matthew Taylor and Luke Castlemen. An experienced team of 17 seniors hope to reach the playoffs this year which they narrowly missed out on last season after losing in their last league game versus the Leigh Longhorns. When asked about his hopes for the rest of the season, Spencer Hoang stated, “… hopefully go to CCS and win the CCS Championship”. With ambitions high, these Warriors are ready to go and “tackle” on their upcoming games and the beginning of the league season. Their next home game is on October 17th, at 7 pm in the bowl versus Ann Sobrato High School from Morgan Hill. Good luck with the rest of the season Warriors!
