Bump, Set, Spike!

By Mason Vargas

Bump, Set, Spike! The iconic process of volleyball. Westmont’s girl’s volleyball team is doing nothing short of that! With fifteen fierce warriors and four experienced seniors, the team is ready to soar above the net. Last year they ended with an overall of 20-9 and placed fourth in the top league, BVAL Mt. Hamilton. This year the team is captained by seniors Kianna Liggs, and Audrey Jones,  both on the varsity team for all their years at Westmont. Sitting at 7-1 as of 9/9/24, the girls team has made a statement and a strong start to their campaign. They placed gold at the Half Moon Bay tournament this year proving their strength and they shouldn’t be messed with. Under new management, Russel Davis hopes to bring new fire to the team and push further into the playoffs and for another year added to the banner of the coveted league titles. The team’s last league title was in 2013. Last year, the team won their first round but suffered a defeat to Monta Vista in a thrilling 5-set game. The team has numerous club players such as Melissa Pasic, Helen Ho, Agatha Kogan, Orion Chang, and Alicia Riddell who hope to bring that extra practice onto the court. Captain, Senior, and Outside Hitter/Middle Blocker Kianna Liggs said, “I love friendships that I have made with everyone on the team over the years”. The team is evidently very close bonded and that surely will help them! The team’s next game is on September 18 at 7 p.m. versus Evergreen Valley High School.
