Growing up with immigrant grandparents, I’ve had the opportunity to learn about my heritage and slowly immerse myself in the rich culture of the country of El Salvador. Accompanying the colorful culture is a mouthwatering cuisine comprising savory treats and dishes such as the Salvadoran Quesadilla. Commonly served alone or with coffee as breakfast or snack, the Salvadoran Quesadilla has a soft and cake-like texture. While the traditional Salvadoran dish does not consist of a tortilla with cheese in the middle like the popular Mexican Quesadilla, the Salvadoran version is a sweet pound cake.
My family and I have made this inviting recipe for years, for we have grown to love the making and eating of the Quesadilla Salvadoreña. I am glad to share this recipe in hopes it brings you the same joy it brings us.
