Ich liebe Deutsches Essen

By Mia Hanuska

On my trip to Europe this summer, I had the amazing opportunity to visit Germany– specifically Traunstein, a small city about an hour from Munich in Bavaria. On my trip, I ate tons of scrumptious gluten free food. Here I’ll be ranking some of the best foods I tried on my trip.

5. Cornflakes

I discovered the mind blowing flavors of cornflakes, and I’ve been forever changed. The corn-y flavor of them is simply perfect—there’s the perfect amount of sweetness and it balances the almond milk I eat with it—mmmm, so yummy.

4. Cornflakes

Another food I tried was cornflakes and gosh darn these puppies are tasty. A couple bowls of cornflakes consisted of my breakfasts for the week, and they’re great for a quick snack that doesn’t spoil an upcoming meal. Overall, 10/10, no changes.

3. Cornflakes

This may be a controversial opinion, but I found German cornflakes to be absolutely scrumptious. They have the perfect crunchy texture that softens wonderfully in a bowl of cold milk—but not too fast. Finding the sweet spot that determines how long cereals take to get mushy is a fine practice, but cornflakes manage to get it right every time.

2. Cornflakes

Now it’s probably surprising to be this high on the list, however the delicacy of cornflakes deserve an S tier spot on the ranking. Not only do cornflakes come in gluten-free options found in almost every supermarket in Germany, their taste, texture, and versatility truly make them a great choice for a hungry traveler.

1. Chocolate Cornflakes

Finally, we have chocolate cornflakes. If these were made in the United States you can bet your hiney I would be buying them ALL up.  You may be saying, “they’re unhealthy!” or “corn and chocolate don’t go well together!” but all that means is more for me, so I see it as a win. This is truly the best thing that’s ever graced my taste buds—and even better? There’s multiple kinds. Some brands carry cornflakes with small bits of chocolate, and others’ are cornflakes covered in a delicious chocolate coating. If you only eat one thing in Germany, make it these cornflakes. We only brought home two bags and I regret it every day. 1000000/10.
