Joyous Jared

By Cat Kemp

A smiling face first thing in the morning and to pep you up after a hard day of school, Jared Gerszewski is truly a campus superhero. Formerly working in special education, Jared’s hardwork and dedication to the school shine through in his everyday work of campus supervising. His bond with countless students is nothing short of admirable, especially considering he only sees most kids for less than ten minutes a day. Here, we diverge off to Jared’s high school life.

Where did you go to high school?

“Santa Teresa.”

What was your school’s mascot?

“St. Bernard.”

When did you graduate?

“2014.”

What was your favorite class in high school and why?

“Fire science. It was an SVCTE but it was my favorite class because it was more hands-on learning and it provided a lot of skills like resume building, medical skills, etc.”

What was your most challenging class and why?

“Probably English just because I dislike reading.”

What was your favorite extracurricular activity and why?

“I played hockey all four years and it was the sport I played since I was two. I also made a lot of friends I still have to this day through the sport.”

Who were your favorite bands/artists/songs while in high school?

“Green Day, Blink 182, Led Zeppelin, Lennie Skinnard, mostly just classic and alternative rock.”

What was your favorite tv show in high school?

“To be fair I didn’t watch much TV so when I did it was just the Sharks playing.”

What was your favorite novel?

“I didn’t like reading. One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest I guess.”

What was your favorite movie while in high school?

“Miracle.”

What are your favorite memories of high school?

“Going undefeated with the high school hockey team for the season and winning the championship. Or, for the fire science class I was captain while they opened a fire tower for training so I got to meet the seven fire chiefs/captains of California.”

What is your least favorite memory of high school?

“Prom. The prom that I had was in a warehouse and there was hardly anything there. I left after 30 minutes.”

What time did school start and end?

“Started 7:05-3:30. It was a long day.”

What was your gpa?

“3.1 I think, at the time of my graduation.”

Did you receive any awards?

“I was on the honor roll one year and I received the most respectful student award.”

How did you get to school (if you drove, what kind of car)?

“I walked to school because I lived across the street. But the car I drove, when I did drive, was a 1997 Toyota Camry.”

Did you ever have to go the dean or principal’s office? Why?

“No.”

So you like your job?

“Yeah, I like my job. It’s cool seeing the students grow and improve over the years and being able to help them succeed other than just getting them to class is fun. I used to work with special ed so it’s just nice to see them grow.”
