College Focus: Fresno State

By Diego Mantelli

About two and a half hours south-east, there is a college in the middle of nowhere that goes by the name Fresno State. Fresno State has a population of about 25,000 students, with an acceptance rate of about 95%, and is ranked 187th in the nation. And, even better, I will be gracing the hallways, all 100 acres of it, next year. So in hopes of convincing myself what’s so great about Fresno State, here’s some fun facts about Fresno.

  1. Fresno has a commercial winery on campus, and it’s the largest one in the nation on a college campus.
  2. Fresno has a nationally ranked equestrian team, and students can keep their horses on campus.
  3. Fresno has the 3rd largest library in the CSU system.
  4. Fresno has an on-campus planetarium, radio station, and news show.

As college application season is on the horizon, Fresno is an amazing, affordable option, that has a wide variety of majors, and is far enough away from home so that you can get away from your parents, if you really want to.
