By Gio Arteaga
Walking into my second day of Sophomore year, a mix of feelings ran through my head. First, entering Journalism was a scare but it was chill and the people that were in the class were super welcoming and sweet. Then comes fifth period, French was a jumpscare but I was used to it as I endured her class the year prior. Then comes AP World History… The class everyone had been talking about was finally here and I was scared. I sat there as he explained the units and started to daydream about what it would be like if I had my own AP World History class.
Picture this, you walk into your AP World History teacher’s room and instead of seeing your regular teacher, you see Mr. Arteaga. He introduces himself as a super cool teacher who has a funny sense of humor and is super chill on late work. He explains how the class is going to work and what the students will be learning this year! We first opened up with the “Global Tapestry” which was the stepping stone to bring the world to a new state. However… Mr. Arteaga doesn’t just “talk about the global tapestry” he talks about the new shirt he bought from H&M for approximately $10! The bargain am I right…
As Mr. Arteaga and his students go through all the units in world history with literally no busy work as he assigns a measly worksheet every week for the students to complete because they have standards. The students, however, are living a less-work life and love Mr. Arteaga. He can go off on tangents for hours about literally anything because he’s been there, and done that. He talks about his life in high school, the rad college experience, and all the parties and fun he had in his prime. This was short-lived however because approximately one month before the AP exam all of his students are freaking out because they don’t need to get one. This put Mr. Arteaga in a stressful situation because he had to figure out a way to cram a whole YEAR worth of history into one month. So they get to work and Mr. Arteaga locks in.
All of his students go insane with the studying and Mr. Arteaga is giving lecture after lecture (with a few tangents). They all work hard and eventually feel semi-confident that they’ll get a three on the exam! Then finally the day rolls around and the students enter the main gym and take their seats to get started. They all take the exam and come out of the room feeling like they got that five!
Spoiler… They didn’t…
