Starbabes

By Sophia Doan and Donya Vandersteen

Like most teenage girls, we adore Starbucks. Every last penny we have is spent on the large variety of drinks they have to offer whether it be an ice-cold refresher, sugary frappuccino, or a perfectly brewed coffee. Scrolling through Tik Tok or Instagram Reels, we see a lot of crazy drink combinations that we’ve always been hesitant to try. We decided to take the risk and try all of the wild drinks so you don’t have to!

A slight twist on our typical starbabes adventure, for issue 8, we tried Shay Anderson’s, our friend, former Shield journalist, and starbucks barista, favorite unusual drink combinations!

Name: Toffee Nut Coffee

What we ordered: Toffee nut oat milk shaken espresso with salted caramel cold foam

How much it cost: $6.60 for a grande

Sophia’s ranking: 10/10

Donya’s ranking: 10/10

Looking at the Toffee Nut Coffee’s cascading ombre, we couldn’t wait to dig in our straws and take the first sip. With swirls of nutty toffee, sweet caramel, and perfectly brewed espresso, this drink gave us the kick we needed to start our day. “This is my go to drink in the morning,” remarked Shay, and we can see why. Not too sweet, yet not too bitter, this is the perfect drink for  all coffee lovers. Added to our list of favorites, we will definitely reorder the Toffee Nut Coffee, and we highly recommend everyone give this drink a try!

Name: Dragon’s Breath

What we ordered: Dragon drink with matcha cold foam

How much it cost: $6.40

Sophia’s ranking: 9/10

Donya’s ranking: 8.5/10

The Dragon’s Breath was a delicious combination of dragon fruit and matcha. An unusual pairing, these exotic flavors blessed our taste buds with a tart burst of flavor. The refreshing dragon drink and creamy matcha cold foam gave the drink a pleasant texture, adding to the delicious drink. Despite the drink separating over time, once it was mixed, it was returned to its original glory. Even though we haven’t liked matcha in the past, we agreed it was the perfect addition to a simple dragon drink, making it the ideal drink for both matcha and dragon fruit lovers alike.

Name: Spring Fling

What we ordered: Passion tea with soy milk and caramel cold foam

How much it cost: $5.90

Sophia’s ranking: 6/10

Donya’s ranking: 7/10

A delicious blend of passion tea and salted caramel cold foam, this drink tasted nothing like it looked. The pink, throwing us off at first, pleasantly surprised us with a similar flavor to the lavender matcha. The hint of caramel added to the drink, but got somewhat lost in the overbearing soy milk. “This drink reminds me of spring” remarked Donya while conjuring up creative things to say. With calming flavors, the Spring Fling is the perfect, light-weight drink to sip on warm spring afternoons!
