Throughout my childhood I used a curling iron (or heat products on my hair) maybe a handful of times, but right when I approached the reality of teenage-girling and hair trends I became a hair tools professional. Ultimately, when the curls fell and I was left with my natural hair, I also found myself with damaged hair. No matter the heat protection products, or a lower heat… my hair was slowly dying. Quickly, I turned to the next best option, braiding, but my hair type is weird so the frizz refused to settle. All hope to have gorgeous perfectly curled hair vanished; until, I stumbled across the magical side of Instagram and Tik Tok. Creators with hair similar to mine showed me videos worth of priceless information, that now, I share with you so you stop killing your hair every time you want texture or a new shape to your hair.
Most popular in the heatless curls community is the sock/satin curler. This is so perfect because of the fact that someone looking to try this out without purchasing or preparing may already have supplies at home. For this, tie two socks together, or take a scarf, maybe even the wait band to a rob; the options are truly endless. Once you have your desired curling object, wrap your hair around and leave overnight. There are countless how to’s on platforms such as YouTube, Tik Tok, and Instagram.
Never going out of style are foam or plastic hair rollers. To get the perfect Shirly Temple hair, or a gorgeous base for an occasion, hair-do hair rollers are your new best friend. Starting at around ten dollars, you can find hair rollers at a local CVS, or on Amazon. For higher quality, or hair specific rollers, beauty stores may have just the right thing for you!
Personally, my favorite way to braid my hair but with a bit of a twist; twisted braids. The way I do them in my hair is similar to a french braid; where I divide my hair into two parts. Starting at the top on one side I take two smaller sections and twist them going the same direction, and go down both sides of my head repeating that process. Within a couple of hours my hair has the perfect beach wave.
Hopefully, a new method is introduced into your routine or I reminded you of something from the early moments of your childhood (I was a hair roller kid). Please be nice to your hair, and keep it healthy.
