Red Panda 

  1. Red pandas are the first discovered panda. They were discovered by Frédéric Cuvier, a French zoologist, almost 50 years before the giant panda. 
  2. Red pandas are more related to raccoons than giant pandas 
  3. Red pandas quack like a duck

Scarlet Macaw

  1. Scarlet macaws can mimic human speech
  2. Scarlet macaws are the largest type of parrot 
  3. Scarlet macaws live long lives with an average life span of 40-50 years but some (in captivity) have been known to live up to 90 years

Giant Squid

  1. The biggest giant squid ever found was 18 meters long and weighed nearly a ton
  2. A giant squid’s eyes are the size of basketballs
  3. Not much is known about this fascinating species 

Red Fox 

  1. Red foxes have more than 20 different calls 
  2. With excellent hearing, red foxes can hear rodents miles underground  
  3. Ironically, red foxes are not always red 

Strawberry Poison Dart Frog

  1. Due to the fact that strawberry poison dart frogs mainly eat ants, they obtain  alkaline toxins for their poisonous skin
  2. Strawberry poison dart frogs produce the chemical “Epibatidine,” which has painkilling effects that are reportedly 200 times greater than morphine
  3. Strawberry poison dart frogs have between 15-30 color morphs  

Scarlet Ibis

  1. Scarlet ibis get their beautiful red color front their diet which mainly consists of shrimp and similar shellfish 
  2. Scarlet ibis have a curved, slender beak that they use to forage for their food 
  3. Baby scarlet ibis are not red but rather a brown-ish color 

Corn Snake

  1. The patterns on the belly of the corn snake, which resemble Indian corn, may be where the term first appeared
  2. Unfortunately, many corn snakes are killed because they are mistaken for the copperhead which is a venomous species
  3. Corn snakes make extremely good pets
