They Don’t Messi Around

Throughout the whole season, the Westmont boys soccer team is 8-3-2. So far in league, they are 3-2, ranking 4th. Captained by Evan Griffith, Diego Vera Pedroza, and Demsin Bet-Varda, the team continues to battle every game and hopes to make CCS playoffs.

Go support your warriors at their next few away games, as they only have two more games left in league! They play February 8th at 7pm at James Lick High School and February 10th at 7pm at Del Mar. Keep your eyes open for any updates about playoffs!

Chance Lavoie, one of the goalies, answers a few questions about his experiences on the soccer team. “Our team’s greatest strength is our chemistry. The best memory of the season was on Schembri’s birthday. We paraded the halls at study hall singing happy birthday, and we gifted Schmebri a soccer ball that was signed by the whole team. Another great memory was when the boys and girls team had a combined training, followed by a team trip to the Garret Station.”

Demsin, one of the captains, also reflects on the season so far. “I think some of our strengths is that we are a really young team and we have a short memory. For example, after a tough loss, we forget about it and move on to the next game without thinking twice. One of my favorite memories with this team would definitely be a big win vs Overfelt away from home with the game-winning goal coming in the last 5 minutes.”
