Books: Savior of the Stranded

By Sydney Reese

Stranded. Alone. Scared. Being abandoned on a deserted island seems just about the worst situation ever, until books are involved. What better place to read a good book than a deserted island? Here are a few books I would bring to this island. First, I would bring The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab. This book not only emphasizes the importance of simply loving life, but also the importance of not losing hope. Another book I would bring is The Sun Is Also A Star by Nicola Yoon. This book would help me appreciate the significance a singular day can have. It would encourage me to keep track of the days that I have been stranded on the island because it gives hope as to what the following day could entail. I would also bring The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins or Battle Royale by Koushun Takami. Both of these books involve many people, randomly selected, stranded in a man-made “battlefield” where they all fight to the death. These books would make me grateful that I would be stranded alone on this island. Overall, with books on the island, will I really be alone?
