Silence

By Carter Cormier

Silence dons many forms,

A taut, tense rope it may be

Pulled tight across the spine

Or uncoiled, suspended, and still

Relaxed and trailing

It may deafen with its presence,

Filling up the room and the mind

Or bring a cozy, idle peace

Calm, soft, and kind
