A Swimming Summer

By Cat Kemp

The most rewarding feeling in life: teaching young kids. My past summer was spent in a pool as a swim teacher. Although the job is draining, and no easy task, I love watching all my students improve and get more comfortable in the water. I work for The Y, which has an extensive swim program that works with the ages of 6 months to 12 years. However, I mostly stick to teaching two to five year olds. Due to their young age, I am no stranger to being splashed, grabbed at, and peed on, but there is no better feeling than seeing a kid get their back float for the first time, or finally stick their head underwater. Overall, I would really recommend my job if you like kids, because it’s not only rewarding to see your kids improve, but it is also exciting to see how you might improve as a teacher and as a person.
