Hi ho! Kermit Thee Frog here.
Kermit The Frog, the host of The Muppet Show, and indisputably Jim Henson’s most famous creation, was introduced in 1955 on Henson’s Sam and Friends, and continues to make appearances in movies and TV today, whether that be through The Muppets or otherwise.
In Kermit’s pourquoi story, he details how he is the first of “several thousand younger brothers and sisters,” he then goes on to name them each: “Angie, Artie, Aloysius, Andy, Artemus,…Eloise, Eugene, Edward, Elaine,…Mortimer, Marry, Millicent, , Matthew,…Yolanda, Yo-yo, Ya-ya, Ye-ye (Mom and Dad were kind of running out of names by then),… Zeek, Zachary, and, of course, Zschlomo (the Z is silent).” Kermit also has a nephew named Robin. In addition to Kermit’s family relationships, he has a rather confusing romantic relationship with his Muppet Show co-star, Miss Piggy. Although Miss Piggy insists that the two tied the knot in The Muppets Take Manhattan and are happily married, Kermit insists that it was simply a scene for the movie and that the two uphold a “professional relationship.”
Mr. The Frog has also received numerous awards and honors throughout his illustrious career. He was awarded with both the Fred Award and the Frog of the Year Award in The Best of Kermit on Sesame Street. As well as these prestigious decorations, Kermit was graced with an honorary doctorate of Amphibious Letters in 1996 from Southampton College, and gave the commencement speech to the graduating class of that year. He was also awarded with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2002, and was nominated for multiple Academy Awards for his songs “The Rainbow Connection” and “The First Time It Happens.”
Kermit The Frog is a truly timeless character who brings a sense of nostalgia and familiarity to every movie, TV show, or award show he is featured in.
