Back to School, More Like Back to Studying

By Larena Tannert

It is that time again: students flooding the hallways, late nights, unnecessary stress and, worst of all, studying. We all know it, and we all hate it. Studying is just one of the dreadful side effects of being back at school. Staying up late and cramming in that last minute studying whilst sacrificing social time will always be one of the most memorable experiences of my time in high school. Although studying is awful and no one wants to do it, there are some great study tips I want to share with you that will make studying a breeze.

  1. Start Early: Waiting until the last minute to cram in some studying is probably the least helpful thing to do. When preparing for a test, the worst thing is waiting until the last minute because you won’t have time to process all of the information.
  2. Get Sleep: Many students sacrifice important sleep time to study when, in reality, it would be more beneficial to get a solid night’s sleep before an important test. The amount of sleep a student gets the night before a test will have important effects on their result. Trying to get around 9 hours of sleep will most likely give you a better grade on your test than pulling an all nighter to study.
  3. Stay Organized: Planning ahead will improve the quality of your studying, as well as making it quicker and easier. Make lists of the crucial topics that need to be studied, put them in order and plan out how much time you will spend studying each individual topic.
  4. Take Breaks: Trying to study for hours straight will lead to headaches and exhaustion. Setting aside time to get outside or eat a snack will make your study time more productive. Giving your mind the breaks it needs to stay focused will help you learn the material better and reduce stress.
