Four-year drumline master and track star, Senior Ian Grosch never fails to collect gold metals and outshine his competitors. Since 6th grade, Ian’s focus on 100, 200, 400, 4×100, and 4×400 meter training has allowed him to prosper in the art and knowledge of running. Ian’s life revolves around track as he strives to find ways to improve, shown through his commitment to Zero G–a high school competitive club allowing for year-round daily track practice. According to Ian’s life-long track teammate Senior Marcus Swalve “Ian eats, breathes, and sleeps track.” With scouts following Ian every which way and his reception of multiple college offers, Ian has succeeded in turning his effort and immaculate talent into a real future in track. Here are Ian’s current astonishing stats: 100m:11.42s, 200m:22.62s, and 400m:51.33s.
What’s your favorite thing about track?
My favorite thing about track is definitely the races, especially the last 200m of the 400m dash because that is where I make my move and pass everybody.
What has been your favorite thing about Zero-G?
My favorite thing about Zero G is the fact that I can meet people that are just as committed as I am and since there aren’t that many people like that, the community is small and really tight as friends.
What inspired you to pursue track?
I was never inspired by one specific thing to do track, I was merely searching for the one hobby that sparked my interest and I found myself in track. But, once I found track, the former state champions from Westmont such as alumni Jessica Swalve and Jason Gomez instantly became my inspiration to continue to train and learn more about the sport.
What are your goals?
My goals this year include qualifying for states in the open 400m dash and also qualifying and medaling in the worlds largest meet: Arcadia.
