Tennis Update

By Olivia Pocat

The Westmont Girls tennis team is off to a strong start in their season, with a 4-1 record. The first game of the season was played against Silver Creek High School, where Westmont dominated over their opponents. There were wins at Singles 2, 3, and 4, as well as at Doubles 1 and 2. Next,  they faced off against Leland, which led to a disappointing loss. All of the players fought hard for a win, but due to injuries and other unlucky factors, the Westmont team lost. When playing Leigh in their proceeding match, Westmont won, and dominated over their opponents. There were wins at Singles 1, 2, 3, and 4, as well as at Doubles 1 and 2, which meant a 6-1 win over Leigh. Next was the match against Sobrato, where once again, the team dominated over their opponents. Tuesday the 21st was the match against Branham and Westmont came out victorious. The players persevered through the heat as they fought hard to win all of their matches. Next was the match against Evergreen Valley High School. Last year, Westmont held the co-league champions title with this school. A dismaying defeat, Evergreen beat Westmont after a couple close matches. Recovering from this loss, Westmont played against Piedmont Hills, to beat this team 5-2. The team is now halfway through the season, leaving only three weeks left, and rematches against all of these teams. Hopefully a rematch brings a win against both Evergreen and Leland.

Captain Lavanika Sharma has faith in the team to do well for the remainder of the season, exclaiming, “Westmont girl’s tennis is a talented and dedicated group of girls, and we are ready to continue beating our opponents with a smile on our faces.” To watch the tennis team continue beating their opponents, make sure to come to the home matches at the Westmont tennis courts! The last home game is on Thursday, October 21st, where Piedmont Hills will fight against the Westmont girl’s team.
