Top Five Taylor Swift Songs

By Aileen Bedwell

Taylor Swift has released hundreds of songs throughout her career, making it almost impossible to choose the top five. Her music covers everything from heartbreak to joy to anger and any emotion in between. With so many albums, narrowing the list to just five is no easy task. These five songs stand out to me the most, each for a different reason.

  1. All Too Well (10-minute version)

I genuinely ascend to heaven and return to earth every time I hear this intro. The instrumentals and the overall wording of the song are beautiful and complement each other perfectly, immediately setting the tone for the rest of the song. The lyrics explore the sensation of missing someone you loved, reminiscing about the moments you had once shared, and eventually learning to accept the change that comes with losing them.

  1. Better Than Revenge

A top pick based on the situation you’re in. There’s no better feeling than screaming this song with your friends when getting ready for literally anything. Disregarding this, the fast-paced beat and sharp, unapologetic lyrics make it IMPOSSIBLE not to get caught up in this song. Taylor captures pent-up anger and jealousy.

  1. Mr. Perfectly Fine

Wow, just wow. The lyrics tell a touching story of how Taylor realized that someone who meant the world to her switched up and acted like she was never there. The beat is smooth and atmospheric, with a slow and steady rhythm that gradually builds intensity. The production and the emotional arrangement create a captivating sound, and her beautiful voice blends seamlessly with the melody.

  1. So High School

Explains the embodiment of being so in love with someone that it brings you back to your teenage years in a short three minutes and forty-eight seconds. Taylor describes the return of butterflies, innocent love, and giddy happiness that is associated with childish love. The nostalgic sound and playful references create a sense of youthful innocence, reminding us all of the excitement of having a crush. It highlights how being with someone you love can make even quiet moments feel like sparks flying, as if you’re experiencing young love all over again.

  1. The Story of Us

Where do I even begin? It’s a well-rounded song, with passionate lyrics, an amazing build-up to the bridge, and expressive vocals that vividly illustrate the frustration and awkwardness of seeing someone you were once close with after the big fallout. The energetic pop-rock fusion contrasts with the underlying heartbreak, making the song catchy and relatable.
