OCTANE Was Insane

By Eera Bhagwat

This past June, I got the amazing opportunity to see Don Toliver live on tour for his most recent album. I’ve been a fan of his music for years, and was thrilled when I got tickets earlier this year.

The setlist included some of his most popular hits like “After Party,” “E85,” and “No Pole,” but in my opinion, this entire album had pretty much no skips on it — every song is so good. Hearing these songs live was a completely different experience than listening to them at home, and I made so many great memories that night.

Walking into the concert, I expected a night of loud music and tons of people, but it was a completely different experience in itself. As soon as the lights went down, the entire arena changed as smoke, lasers, and flashing lights took over. The effects were crazy during the biggest parts of each song — it felt like the entire stage was exploding, and it made the experience so much cooler.

To me, what made the night the most memorable was the combination of everything — the music, the crowd, the production and Don Toliver’s performance. The energy never dropped, and there was always something happening, whether that be in the crowd or on stage. By the end of the concert, it was easy to see why the show was sold out. It felt like more than a concert —  an experience, almost, that you have to witness to understand.
