Running Back From Irvine

By Alex Villanueva

Returning from Irvine, our boys’ cross-country varsity team had a great race at the 45th Annual Woodbridge Cross Country Classic. Racing in the varsity division, our team had a quick morning race. Our team consisted of 5 sophomores, Alex Villanueva, Takuto Sagara, Shotaro Horibe, Raj Chitmabar, and Marcus Tsang, along with our funny and beloved junior and senior, Tony Yang and Arin Dubey. It was an amazing invitational; with more than 400 schools in total, the field was extremely competitive. Despite that, we all ran new personal bests, with five of us receiving medals for being in the top 100 finishers and two of our athletes falling within the top 25 running times of 15:32 and 15:47. We had a great time in Irvine before and after the race, visiting Irvine Spectrum, exploring the city, eating countless Chipotle bowls, and staying up until 3 a.m. for some epic gameplay. Our varsity team is now ready for BVALs and CCS, awaiting new records to be made and a possible athlete determined to win CCS this year.
