All around the book section of social media, popularly known as booktok, there are hundreds of different theories circling around one author’s books in particular: Sarah J. Maas. Maas is the author of three popular fantasy series: Throne of Glass, A Court of Thorns and Roses(ACOTAR), and Crescent City. All of these series are connected in some way or another with the whole world still to be revealed. Readers have seen crossovers connecting two of the series but one is still shrouded in mystery. Readers have been dissecting these series for years and new theories are introduced everyday from tiny details. Now, I have one of my own.
Please note that there are both big and mild spoilers ahead. Throughout the series, many characters have amber eyes and red hair. Most notably are Bryce Quinlan and her father, the Autumn King from Crescent City. While Bryce has light powers from her Starborn heritage, her father has fire powers. Other characters with similar abilities and physical traits from ACOTAR belong to the Autumn Court in Prythian. Beron, its High Lord, has red hair and fire abilities and so do his sons.
However, there is another character, this time from Throne of Glass, who has amber eyes and red hair. His name is Brannon Galathynius. Brannon is a character who has been dead centuries before the timeline started, yet is very important. Maybe even more important than we thought. He is the ancestor of Aelin Galathynius, the main character in Throne of Glass, and gave his bloodline fire gifts when he married Mala, the fire goddess.
From events in Crescent City and Throne of Glass, portals have been opened between worlds and we can assume that not all world crossings are accounted for. This adds even more mystery to not only Brannon as a character, but his actions when he was alive that we as readers are not aware of(yet).
Brannon’s descendants are known as “nameless” and have to make incredible sacrifices to correct a mistake made centuries ago by Brannon’s daughter, Elena.
But a connection that I have made, connects all of these characters.
Because of unknown world crossings, there has most likely been a crossing between the Throne of Glass world and Prythian. It is also unknown how many children Brannon had. With this information, one of his children or direct descendants has probably crossed into Prythian. Evidence of this can be found in the Autumn Court with their eyes.
Beron has brown eyes yet his son, Eris has amber eyes. Lucian, who is revealed that he is not Beron’s son but rather the son of Helion(another High Lord), has copper or russet eyes. Lucian’s eyes are colors similar to amber yet Eris also has amber eyes. From this, it can be deduced that their amber eyes came from their mother.
Their mother, who is NAMELESS, by the way, is a character that Maas hasn’t given much information about. However, it is mentioned that Lucian also has the fire abilities that Beron’s court is known for. Other characters in ACOTAR discussed this and realized that his abilities must come from his mother, whom Beron chose as his wife because of her powerful bloodline.
It is also worth noting the irony is Lucian’s mother’s heritage as nameless because the Autumn Court is the only court whose surname is known, Vanserra. All of the other High Lords have no known surname.
Finally, crossings between Prythian and the Crescent City world are a major conflict in Crescent City. With this information, is it possible and highly likely that an ancestor of Lucian’s mother crossed over to the Crescent City world and bred with Bryce’s Starborn ancestors, carrying their physical traits to Bryce and her father.
Please note that this theory is my opinion not fact and that it is a creation of my own observations. Hopefully, us readers will find out more about these mysterious worlds in the upcoming books and confirm all of the wonderful other theories fans have come up with.
