If you are on social media a lot, there is a chance you have seen an edit of a blond man in a blue suit either drinking tea or tricking people into admitting murder. This man is Patrick Jane, the main character of the hit tv show, The Mentalist.
First aired on CBS in 2008, it follows Patrick Jane, a former celebrity “psychic” turned consultant for the California Bureau of Investigation, who solves murders with his team while hunting for the man who killed his family. In addition to the gripping crime drama that encompasses the whole series, it is also accompanied by a slow burn romance that lasts all seven seasons.
Recently, the show has had a bit of a resurgence on social media, with clips and edits from the show circling through feeds that have prompted many viewers to watch the show. Many of the clips and edits have as many as a hundred thousand views.
However, recent interviews with starring actor Simon Baker (Patrick Jane) and actress Robin Tunney (Teresa Lisbon) have confirmed that there will be no reboot of the show and that they have no interests in revisiting the role. Nonetheless, the show has become a big part of the actors’ lives. Owain Yeoman and Tim Kang, actors who played CBI agents Wayne Rigsby and Kimball Cho, have a podcast called The TV Police: A Rewatch of The Mentalist where the two of them deep dives into the episodes with stories of behind-the-scenes and more.
If you love crime dramas and overarching mysteries, The Mentalist may be the perfect show for you. Get immersed in the cases and root for the romance as it builds until the end, leaving the show finished with the ending everyone deserved.
