From diving across the court to digging powerful attacks, the Westmont Varsity Girls Volleyball team has seen plenty of intensity this season. As the season progresses, these girls have been competing aggressively against a wide array of teams. Their hard work in practices and games has helped the team build strength and confidence on the court. Each matchup gives the players another chance to improve their skills and show their teamwork.
Behind every play, each athlete contributes in their own special way. The roster features 15 dedicated girls, primarily upperclassmen, with the exception of one sophomore, Madison Bek. Serving as varsity captains for the 2026-2027 season, Melissa Pasic and Orion Chang both demonstrate exceptional leadership and a true passion for volleyball. The team is led by head coach Russell Davis, along with assistant coach Meg Alduino. Together, the coaching staff helps guide and assist the players through the season. Their unique kind of dedication keeps the team spirit high and keeps them motivated for the next point. With strong teamwork, devoted coaches, and players who each add their own flair, the team continues to work together toward success as the season moves forward.
As the season unfolds, Westmont has faced eight opponents, currently holding a record of 4-4. The team’s wins have been against Independence High School, Mills High School, Willow Glen High School, and Oak Grove High School, while their losses include Sequoia High School, Los Gatos High School, Soquel High School, and Cupertino High School. Among the intense competition they have faced, one of their most tightly contested matches was against Cupertino, which proved to be one of their most challenging opponents. At this point, they played in one major tournament called Spikefest, where they placed 4th overall. Some of the team’s biggest assets have been their powerful serves, quick-witted offense, and proactive defense. The team has been working on the consistency of their offense, their serving accuracy, and their hitting dependability. Overall, the team remains optimistic about perfecting their play and building even stronger connections as they head into the other half of the season.
Their next game is today against Evergreen Valley High School. If you can’t make it, Westmont’s next volleyball game is on September 24 against Leigh High School. “I’m looking forward to seeing how much we can improve and hopefully finishing the season strong,” said Melissa when asked about what she’s looking forward to for the rest of the season. These upcoming games will give the team more opportunities to continue developing and competing throughout the season. With the support of the Westmont community, the team hopes to display its progress and carry its drive into the second half of the season.
