Second Times The Charm: Sophomore Reflection

By Nupur Apte

In honor of almost completing my sophomore year of high school, and the end of my journey as an underclassmen, here is a list of everything I am thrilled to be done with come the end of the 25-26 school year.

  1. AP World History: The second to most hated class I had this year (#1 spot goes to English), and though I got through the year better than some of my classmates, playing Drift Boss every class and listening to endless lectures about the same thing had me counting down the days to AP testing.
  2. IM 2: Embarrassing to have on this list, but it felt wrong to not include it. If, like me, you are not a math genius, and are going to be in IM 2 as a sophomore, be ready to enjoy a year of being surrounded by freshmen Einsteins every other day of your life. This one did make me feel a little dumb, but I guess nobody can have it all….
  3. Chemistry: You may be seeing a pattern of me hating all my classes, but those are exactly what turned my year from rad to sad. Chemistry is the most confusing subject I’ve ever had, and it combines science, math, and a made up subject that’s not named yet (I think physics might be the one to end me).
  4. Underclassmen Sadness: Not much to say on this one except that I’ll be that much closer to being a senior and graduating.
  5. The end of being driven by parents: Thrilled to say that the license is pending and will hopefully be realized by October.

Come to think of it, there are really only 5 things that I want to be over, so here are some things that this year brought that I am grateful for:

  1. My amazing friends/friendgroup: Throughout the past school year, I’ve had the opportunity to grow closer with my friends and with the help of some licenses and very generous friends, I’ve gotten to spend more time with them and do lots of super fun things with them. Though this only takes up one spot on my list of two things that went well this year, don’t be fooled. My friends are the biggest pro of this year and I would say they’re 99%  of the reason I haven’t dropped out of school.
  2. CSF: I admit, I began CSF to get hours and maybe a cool cord at graduation. However, through the year, volunteering has become more enjoyable, and an activity that I would do willingly and earning hours has just become a bonus to that, so if someone not in CSF is reading this, I’d super-recommend it.

Overall, my sophomore year was a super-mix of terrible and fun, like most school years are, but as a total overview, let’s just say I’m very excited for junior year!
