That Day is Real

By Averi Halbert

Had I known,

That day is real

That it would chase us down

Through the bad hair days,

The bad tests and the late-night studies

Or through the drives with friends and listens to the same music we did

And through friend groups and teachers

And although I wasn’t running from it, exactly

I didn’t think it was truly real

Or that it would ever catch us

But that day is real

And it’s slowly creeping up.
