Romanced By Rats

The Ratchelor is a digital dating simulator by Algorat: a riff off the famous TV show, The Bachelor. You play as a “poorly drawn” rat á la Microsoft Paint, and listen to the funky music as you sift through your cast of potential bachelors and bachelorettes. For my secret task this issue, I wade through the vibrant waters of rat matchmaking (becoming a rat myself), and find my one true rodent love.

As a result of immense popularity, The Ratchelor has three different seasons, with a whole plethora of different rat suitors to assess. For my purposes, I will be exploring The Original: Season 1.

After choosing the skin through which I want to find mousy love, (I was feeling very drawn to the purple mouse, to be completely honest) I was permitted to choose my personal cast out of the 21 options available. Each rat had a distinctly different frame and face shape than the others, labeled with their name and a quote—as a “snapshot” of their personalities.
