Monday marked the final game of the NCAA Mens college basketball season. After a close contest the whole way, Michigan rose on top against UConn in the National Championship Game. The game was back and forth throughout. For most of the game, Michigan was in front by about 5-10 points. UConn managed to maintain a close score throughout the game but ultimately fell short in their final push.
With the season being over, expectations have already been pushed out and set for teams. The UConn Huskies will lose some key pieces from this year’s roster. Their frontcourt of Karaban and Reed Jr. are both seniors and will have to leave. Depending on the decisions of some other players, they could get key guards Solo Ball, Silas Demary Jr., and Braylon Mullins back. Having all of them back will give them experienced, solid guards in the backcourt. Along with Coach Dan Hurley on their sideline, UConn will remain an elite team next year.
The defending champs won’t be going anywhere next season. While they are losing Big 10 Player of the Year and 1st Team All-American Yaxel Lendeborg and 7’3 giant Aday Mara, they have many crucial players who can be set to return. It has been confirmed that MOP of the championship game, Elliot Cadeau, will return for his final season. In addition, electric guard L.J. Cason, big man Morez Johnson Jr., and sharpshooter freshman Trey McKinney all have more years ahead. With Dusty May’s starting five being all transfers this year, I am sure they will get more solid newcomers for the upcoming season. Teams won’t want to see the National Champs next year.
