Like the super secret spies we are, Emi Gruender and I met up in the midst of a busy AP Gov class period. Sneakily sneaking my hand into the top hat, I drew from it a slip of pink paper which would determine my uber important super secret task. As I unfolded the vibrant paper, I read “Go to the library and take a class.” I solemnly nodded at Emi, confirming my acceptance of this duty. And thus, my journey began.
On April 14, I donned my most normal pair of jeans and paired it with an unsuspecting hoodie as I grabbed the keys to start on my trip to Saratoga Library. I would be participating in the branch’s Paint-A-Rock event.
As I approached the door, I noticed an increase in the elementary schooler population—I would obviously need to do more to keep from blowing my cover. I headed towards the back, where a nice, unassuming woman with blue hair stood guard over the paint and rocks. “Are you here to paint a rock?” she questioned. Smoothly, I replied, “Yes.”
Upon receiving my assortment of paint and grabbing a normal rock, I sat down at a table and began the real work. As I mixed some blues and greens and swathed the rock in royal violets, my vision was complete. I stealthily packed up, washing my brushes in the water and throwing my paints in the trash since I am a good patron of the Saratoga Library. While my art is really personal, I’ll attach a photo of my painting below for your enjoyment.
Ultimately, this daunting task proved to be entertaining. While my palms were clammy at the impossible burden placed on my shoulders, the library turned out to be a welcoming environment.
