Cuba is known for its beautiful culture and popular cities like Havana, which have been going through a crisis that no one seems to be talking about. Cuba has been experiencing power, medicine, and food shortages. Since the beginning of 2026, the U.S. has prevented oil tankers from getting to Cuba, causing an energy deficit. Before the oil cutoff, the country was already in serious trouble, and Trump’s decision has caused the country to reach its brink. The lack of energy has caused blackouts which have left many people starving. People are being rationed bread rolls and eggs at grocery stores, and citizens are doing anything they can to help feed their families. If this continues the country will soon face humanitarian crises. However, the fault is not merely the U.S.’s, it’s Cuba’s own government too. For many years, the Cuban authorities have been investing their money and resources towards growing their military power; holding 18 billion of the country’s assets. Due to the country’s awful conditions, citizens have taken it upon themselves to protest. Unfortunately, those who are speaking out are harassed and arrested to ‘maintain control.’ These efforts by President Trump have been a goal of his since returning to the White House. He blocked oil tankers from coming through in efforts to put an end to the Cuban communist leader. Currently, the country is its own government subject to harassment. The country’s leader Miguel Díaz-Canel and Trump have talked about negotiating an end to this all, with both sides publicly stating their intention and positions on the economy and politics, creating more difficulty for them to come to terms. Cuba is still in crisis, does not seem to be getting better, and is slowly dying, needing as much assistance as possible.
