Despite leaving Israel over a year ago, I recently found a note in my phone from when my friend and I tried a lot of Israeli snacks during my trip. Generally speaking, I will try almost any food, but I don’t actually like many of them, and I have very strong opinions. The note just had ratings, so I will try to elaborate based on what I remember.
Bamba 2/10
This opinion might ruffle some feathers (looking at you, Jesse), but I HATE Bamba. For anyone who hasn’t tried it, imagine a Cheeto Puff, but instead of cheese flavor, it’s peanut. I abhor the way Bamba feels in my mouth; it is disgusting.
Bamba Nugat 9/10
Big difference to the standard Bamba, Bamba Nugat is a bit smaller and filled with hazelnut spread. This version is much more delicious.
Grill Doritos 3/10
This one annoyed me. In Israel, Grill Doritos are in Purple packaging, the same purple packaging that holds the Spicy Sweet Chili Doritos in the U.S. Big shock, because these are gross. I know that I can read Hebrew and could’ve found out that they, in fact, were grill flavored, but I was being lazy. Also, subconsciously, I would tend to grab the purple bag instead of the green one.
BBQ Bissli 6/10
I don’t love any flavor of Bissli; to me, they are almost grainy. That being said, Israeli chips have a lot less flavor than most American ones, which can feel like an assault to your mouth, which I appreciated.
Pizza and Smokey Bissli 5/10
Same critiques as BBQ, but I like these flavors a bit less.
Kariot 9/10
I think this is technically a cereal, but I always ate it dry, usually out of my friend’s box during AP Lang. Food always hits different when it doesn’t belong to you, but this slaps. The main flavor is nugat, but the vanilla is also really good.
Klik 7/10
Klik are little chocolates of various flavors, in snack-size packaging. They come in a bunch of different flavors, some better than others; they are pretty good. I liked all of the ones I tried.
