Passport Dreams

By Penny Nunes

All I’ve ever wanted to do is travel–as long as I can remember. I love seeing the world and seeing what’s out there past my hometown. There is so much to the world besides what is right in front of you. Of course, I had the blessing of growing up in California with beaches left and right, but they never felt like the right beaches. I always felt like I was looking for something more, something beyond what I could see. I’m not sure what it was, but I knew there was more waiting for me, more that I could not quite see yet. Now that I’m older, I know more about the places in the world and where I want to go. Before I die, I have to visit these 5 places.

  1. Hawaii. Wow, I know. Seems so simple, but I’ve never been. I feel like everyone has been to Hawaii! Aside from the gorgeous scenery, the experiences it offers, and silly little side quests you can do, I just need to be there. I have been blessed by my best friend, Kaia, with the ability to go over spring break with her! I don’t know how I will be able to wait.
  2. Paris. Ever since I was a little girl, I have dreamed of going to Paris. My grandma would always talk about it with me, all the beautiful sights, activities, and the feeling. Oh, the feeling of being somewhere completely different, experiencing something completely new, how I dream of being able to encounter those desires.
  3. Greece. One day, I will live out my Mamma Mia dreams. Singing “Dancing Queen” while being in a long, blue dress, with wavy beach hair, heading to dinner. A beautiful boat ride, admiring the cities and buildings. Part of me is convinced that it’s only in movies; they just seem too beautiful to be real.
  4. Italy. When someone tells me they’ve been to Italy, a piece of me flinches. Specifically, Venice, I mean, can you imagine? Taking a boat everywhere, or even walking down the street and just waving to someone in a boat, wow, that is a dream. Plus…the food, oh my goodness, it looks and sounds incredible, unique pastas would be among the first things I’d try.
  5. The Bahamas. Clearly, I like beaches…but there are so many fun things to do and try here, like going to a beach with pigs, going into underwater caves, and checking out Pink Sand Beach. Oh, the breathtaking views I could see here, it would feel like a whole new world.

There are so many places in the world to travel to, but these are some I want to see before  I die. Places that I think would fill the missing piece that California beaches can’t seem to satisfy. As much as I love my hometown, I can’t wait to leave and see the beautiful world that God created for us.
