Katseye’s Inescapeable “Internet Girl”

By Laura Lipcsei

“Haven’t you heard…Internet Girl?” Unfortunately, I have. From the very first listen, I knew that—tragically—I wouldn’t be able to stop listening to this horrendous song. The overabundance of autotune, the questionable instrumental, the ungodly, high-pitched, baby voice singing “I’m getting out of here,” and the strange mentions of zucchini of all things—all these by themselves make me want to rip my ears off, and yet—somehow—become addicting when put together.

The first time I listened to this song, I just told myself to just keep on breathing, hoping that somehow it would become better as the song played. It didn’t. And yet for some absurd reason I still added it to my playlist (I’m still not sure if I regret it or not). Something about the song scratched an itch I didn’t know I had, and made me immediately addicted to it despite—probably because of—its atrociousness.

This song is like a movie or show that’s so bad that it’s somehow good—you read me? Like Ginny & Georgia, for example!

So even though “Internet Girl” is objectively horrible, I still recommend listening to it because I—very, very reluctantly—love it, and you never know, you might like it too.

Anyways, that’s all I wanted to say. Now, I’m getting out of here!
