Breakfast is overrated

By Cameron Kobara

As far back as I could remember, I would always hear people telling me, “Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.” Supposedly if I don’t devour a combination of eggs, toast and a glass of orange juice every morning then I won’t be energized for the rest of the day. But here’s the thing, breakfast is overrated. School itself starts around 8:30, and if I don’t leave my house by 7:50 I’ll be late to first period. When I wake up the last thing I want to do (nor have the time for) is to eat breakfast. Brushing my teeth, getting dressed, and showering already takes 40 minutes at a minimum, and I refuse to lose a single ounce of sleep just so I can pour myself a bowl of soggy cereal. I’d much rather prefer having small snacks during brunch or at other moments throughout the day rather than a huge breakfast at seven in the morning.

I believe many people would agree when I say I do not feel hungry that early in the morning, at around that time the only thing I can stomach is water and silence. The only times I eat breakfast are before a long day when I must be laser focused (e.g. before AP exams)

To conclude, breakfast is overrated, not because eggs and toast are evil, but because unlike us, hunger does not run on a bell schedule and I simply refuse to get early enough to make myself some food. Some people like eggs and others a stack of waffles, good for them. I would much rather wait until my stomach wakes up along with the rest of my body.
